Queenstown Dusk

Looking across Lake Wakatipu at dusk in Queenstown.

Camping Able Tasman

We spent 3 days kayaking along the North West tip of the South Island in the Able Tasman National Park (interesting story: Able Tasman, a Dutch explorer, named New Zealand for his home province in the Netherlands - Zeeland. The sea that separates NZ from Aussie also is named for Tasman). Here we docked and camped on the beach.

Greenstone Valley

Returning to Glenorchy. The Greenstone Valley. The track follows the river which runs through this valley.

Waterfall

At one of the thousands of waterfalls you seem to come across in New Zealand.

End of the Routeburn

Mike, Lauren, Kurt, Reena and myself at the end of the Routeburn. Just arrived at the Divide and on our way to Milford Sound. We stayed in MIlford Sounds over night then headed back towards Glenorchy via the Greenstone Track.

Nearing Milford

Almost to the end of the Routeburn track. Lauren, me, and Reena.

Routeburn Waterfall - Dustin and Lauren

It was a wet second day on the Routeburn so there were waterfalls to cross under.

Lauren In Routeburn Valley

Lauren in the Valley.

Routeburn Track

Leaving the base drop off and off towards Milford Sound (the most beautiful place on earth) on the first leg of the Grand Traverse. We found this waterfall just off the main track.

Dinner In Glenorchy

Cooking dinner in Glenorchy before we leave for the Grand Traverse.

Drive To Glenorchy

Along Lake Wakatipu. Driving to Glenorchy on the North tip of the lake. Me and Lauren started the 'Grand Traverse.' It's a 73 km East-West hike over the Routeburn Divide and into Milford Sound. Then a return to Glenorchy via the Greenstone Track which follows the Greenstone River. It took us 6 days/5 nights.

Two Way VW Bug

Someone attached two front ends of a VW Beetle. Just thought it looked interesting. He's actually driving away in this photo.

Christchurch Art Gallery

We spent a big part of the day down near the Botanical Gardens and the Art District (go the Sat and Sun morning market). This is the exterior of the Christchurch Art Gallery or Te Puna O Waiwhetu.

Seagull

This is the seagull that joined us for dinner at Sonic On The Rocks in Kaikoura.

One More Mo'

By popular demand one more photo of the Mo'. It was taken at quiz night. That's me in deep thought...

Cathedral Square Christchurch

The day we arrived at Christchurch this busker (old guy with the ZZ Top beard) was giving kids unicycle rides in front of the Christchurch Cathredral.

Drive To The Sea

Heading from Kaikoura towards Christchurch on the East Coast of the South Island. The ocean is in the back centre.

Kaikoura Seal Colony

Me and Lauren stopped at a Seal Colony just outside of Kaikoura. The seal is chilling on the rocks just right of me. Suntanning I guess.

Picton Sunset

Sunset as we approached Picton

The Sounds

Sunset from the ferry as we approached Picton at the top of the South Island.

Wellington Ferry

The trip begins...heading down to the South Island from Wellington to Picton for 3 weeks of hiking and sightseeing.
